… building self-belief is the essence of good coaching”.
by John Whitmore

What is Coaching?

Coaching is a one-to one process and is used in organisations to assist individuals to refocus, identify and achieve their goals. It concentrates on matters that the client decides to bring to the sessions and usually centres on current and future work-related issues. The coach assists the movement towards the client’s own solutions and actions by clarifying outcomes or actions wanted, through listening, exploring, observing and questioning.

Areas to explore can be:

  • The thing about work just now is ….
  • What are your strengths?
  • How do you deal with new and stretching situations?
  • What resources do you have?
  • In your work, what do you want to do more of? Less of? Differently?
  • What enables you and your team to work well?
  • Where do you want to be in one year’s time?

What can Coaching do for You?

  • Give you time to think in a confidential and safe space with a person external to your place of work
  • Assist you to prepare for an appraisal, interview, facilitate a multi–professional meeting
  • Grow your confidence, become ‘unstuck’, face a new challenge or clarify your next career steps

Coaching is not about addressing concerns or personal circumstances that may require more specific support, such as counselling or psychotherapy. If this became apparent, then the coach would suggest alternatives to the client.

Coaching and Supervision sessions are confidential and adhere to:

When people feel that they are working well they are often in a place which allows them to thrive, not just survive. Coaching can heighten awareness of these conditions, how to influence them, be productive in them, and make the most of the resources that are within you and around you.
